JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team posted a 119-51 victory over Fisk University Monday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium, David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 6-2, while Fisk dropped to 2-9.
Union shot 63 percent from the field in the first half, including 77 percent (13-17) from 3-point range. Union's 77 first half points set a school record, passing the old record of 76 points in a half set back in March of 2009. It also puts Union in second place in the GSC record book for points in a half. Union's largest lead of the game was 69 points at 116-47 in the fourth quarter.
Union jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the game. Two layups from
Jada Smith, a layup from
Miracle Gray, and a 3-pointer form
Emily Beard got Union off to the fast start. Beard's 3-pointer started a string of four straight 3-pointers for the junior guard. Union pushed out to a 28 point lead, 38-10, by the end of the first quarter. Union's lead expanded to 77-18 by halftime. Beard was 6-of-9 from 3-point range with 18 points in the first half.

Leah Cauble, and
Shanique Lucas with 18 points each.
Jaelencia Williams scored 14,
Jacie Higgins added 12,
Kieli Robinson 11, and
Caroline Hogue scored 10 points. Union shot 55 percent from the field, 42 percent from long range (13-31), and 77 percent (26-34) from the free throw line.
Fisk was led by Lee with 16 points and Browning with 14 points. Fisk shot 29 percent from the field, 38 percent (8-21) from long range, and 60 percent (9-15) from the foul line.
Up next for Union will be a home non-conference game, Thursday, December 5 at 6 p.m. versus Lane College.
