LAKELAND, Fla. - The Union University women's cross country team finished fifth at the 2019 NCAA Division II South Region Championships. The 6K event, hosted by Florida Southern College, took place at Holloway Park in Lakeland and featured 17 teams with 120 runners.Â
Union's
Abigail Bergquist earned All-South Region honors by finishing in the top-25. Bergquist was 21th with a 6K time of 23:01. Lee's Celine Ritter won the event with a time of 21:41.Â
The top three finishers advance to the D2 National Championships and Union missed out on a second straight trip by two spots. Lee won the event with a time of 1:51:31. Tampa finished second, Saint Leo third, and Florida Southern fourth. Union finished ahead of Embry-Riddle in sixth, Alabama Huntsville seventh, Montevallo eighth, Mississippi College ninth, and Nova Southeastern 10th. Finishers 11-17 included in order Palm Beach Atlantic, Lynn, Christian Brothers, Valdosta State, Spring Hill, West Florida, and West Alabama.Â
