MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University women's cross country team posted a 5th-place finish at the 2025 Gulf South Conference Championship Saturday morning. The championship took place at Shelby Farms and featured 12 teams with 99 runners.

Union's Addi Aguayo posted the program's highest individual finish with a runner-up spot. Her time of 20:32 broke her own school record for a 6K race by almost a minute. She originally set the record last weekend with a time of 21:27. Aguayo was named first-team All-GSC.

Victoria Markham also posted an impressive finish in the 15th spot with a time of 21:48. Her time is the third-fastest 6K time in program history. With her 15th-place finish, she was named second-team All-GSC.

Ayla Young Cook was named the GSC Champion Scholar. This award is given to the championship participant with the highest GPA among all participants. If the GPA is the same, then the highest total credits completed serves as the tiebreaker. Cook becomes the third Union women's cross country runner (Amanda Leatherwood, 2019; Anna Tankersly, 2020) to earn the award, first given by the GSC in 2019.

"What a day!" Union head cross country coach Bailey Bell said. Two runners finishing All-GSC. Victoria finished 15th, and Addi finished second overall while breaking her own school record set just one week ago. Ayla earned the GSC Champion Scholar Award for the whole GSC! And, our girls had PR's top to bottom. However, more than this historical performance, I am proud of the way these women have committed themselves to excellence and sacrificed for the solidarity of the team. They love Jesus, and they glorify Him with their gift of running."

The Union team finished 5th and, in the process, broke the school record in a 6K event with a time of 1:53:32. The previous record was 1:54:06 set in the NCAA D2 South Region race in 2018.

Young posted a 45th-place finish, Clara Zinn 54th, Ryan Harter 65th, Sophie Crisler 77th, and Heidi Munday 83rd.

Up next for the women's cross country team will be the NCAA D2 South Region Championship, Saturday, November 8, at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Florida.
