JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team posted a 98-70 win at Lane College Saturday afternoon. Union improved to 2-2 on the season, while Lane dropped to 2-2 overall.
With the big win, Union avenged an a 72-59 loss to Lane last Saturday in Mobile, Ala. at the South Region Crossover Classic.
Union led 40-21 at the half and then exploded for 58 second half points.
Lane led briefly, 10-9 early in the game, but a 3-pointer from
Payton Stovall gave the Bulldogs the lead for good, 12-9. Union led by as many as 20 points in the first half.
In the second half, Union kept building the lead. Union pushed the lead up to as many as 36 points in the game, 92-56, with 3:04 left.
Union's
Tyree Boykin led all scorers with 29 points, including 24 points in the second half. The sophomore guard was 4-of-8 from 3-point range.
Tylandrius Parks scored 21 points and Stovall finished with 18 points. Stovall hit 3-of-7 3-pointers. Union shot 52 percent from the field, 35 percent (12-34) from 3-point range, and 75 percent (18-24) from the free throw line.
Lane was led by Tyler Henry with 20 points including 4-of-7 from long range. Ariston Johnson scored 13 points. The Dragons shot 34 percent from the field, 28 percent (8-29) from long range, and 64 percent (18-28) from the free throw line.
Up next for Union will be the first regular season home game of the year, Monday, November 18 at 6 p.m. versus Williams Baptist College.
