MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Union University men's basketball lost 72-63 at Southern Arkansas University. Union dropped to 1-2 on the season, while Southern Arkansas improved to 1-2. 

Union got as close as three points midway through the second half, but SAU pulled back up by 13 points late in the game. A 3-pointer from LiDonta Hicks-Gentry pulled Union to within eight points, 70-62, with 51 seconds left. A pair of free throws by SAU extended the lead back to 10 points with 40 seconds left. The teams exchanged free throws over the final seconds as SAU took the 72-63 win. 

Union trailed 36-28 at the half. Union never led in the game. SAU led by as many as 13 points in the game, 68-66 with 2:41 left to play. Both teams struggled from long range, but it was SAU dominating the paint, outscoring Union 40-24 down low. 

Union was led by Tyree Boykin with 23 points. Terrandus Smith added 11 points and Hick-Gentry scored 10 points. Union shot 36 percent form the field, 24 percent (7-29) from long range, and 88 percent (14-16) from the free throw line. 

Southern Arkansas was led by D. Brooks and Lucas with 18 points each. Thomas and Gilliam added 10 points each. D. Brooks and J. Brooks each added 14 rebounds. The Muleriders shot 44 percent from the field, 22 percent (5-23), and 60 percent (15-25) from the free throw line. 

Up next for Union will be a road game at crosstown foe Lane College, Saturday, November 16 at 4 p.m. This will be a rematch game from last Saturday when Lane topped Union in the crossover classic in Mobile, Ala. The game will be broadcast on 93.1 FM or online at www.uuathletics.com/live.
