PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Union University volleyball team fell 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-19) at the University of West Florida. Union dropped to 15-10 overall and 7-3 in the Gulf South Conference. West Florida improved to 18-8 on the season and a conference-best 10-0 in league play.
West Florida won the match with its hitters and defense, dominated the kills category 71-47, and in digs 91-62 over Union. The Argos hit .268, while Union hit .190. Union held the advantage in aces, 5-2, and blocks, 8-4.
In the first set, UWF led 2-1, but Union rattled off five straight points started by a kill from
Emily Grace Calhoon.
Meghan Delaney served the next four points, including two aces and one kill. Union never trailed again moving to the 25-20 win. In the second set, West Florida never trailed and pulled away to the seven point victory. Set three was controlled by Union early, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. UWF rallied to pull to within 14-12 of Union. Six straight points by the Argos put the game in UWF's control, edging Union 25-22. The fourth set Union last led at 9-8 and the set was tied again at 11-11 after back-and-forth place early on. West Florida gained the lead for good at 12-11 and moved out to the 25-19 win.
Delaney was the only Union hitter in double figures kills with 21. Delaney also posted a game-high four aces.
Kristen Bukowsky,
Alyssa Tatsch, and Calhoon each recorded game-high four blocks each.
Jordan Vick led with 43 assists and Delaney led with 15 digs.
West Florida's Jordyn Poppen posted a game-high 25 kills.
Up next for Union will be a road GSC match at Auburn Montgomery, Saturday, November 2 at 2 p.m.
