JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team lost both matches in Saturday play in the Union Volleyball Classic. Union dropped to 3-10 on the season.

Union lost to Belmont Abbey College 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22). In game two of the day, Henderson State University beat Union 3-1 (16-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-19)

In Union's first set against Belmont Abbey, a kill by
Christa Karns put Union up first. After a few back and forth play, Union went on a couple of three point runs to jump up 8-4. Union kept the lead until Belmont Abbey scored six straight points to gain the lead for good, winning 25-20.

In the second set, the Lady Crusaders jumped up 2-0 with back-to-back kills. Belmont Abbey kept the lead until Union went on a five point run to tie the match at 17. BAC responded with a seven point run, putting the score at 24-17. Union scored three more points until Belmont Abbey scored the final point, 25-20.Â

The two teams swapped points for most of the third set. It was tied at 22 when BCA scored three straight points to win the match, 25-22.Â

Union was led by
Rebecca Sexton with 17 assists and Megan Delaney with six kills.Â

Henderson State took the first three points of the first set in Union's second game, but Union answered with a four point run including two kills by
Abbie Rahn. Union was able to jump ahead after another four point rally and a three point run to clinch the set, 25-16.

In the second set Union started out strong jumping up 4-2, but Henderson State took the lead after a five point run and pulled away to a 25-17 victory.Â

Henderson State soared ahead with a 7-4 lead in the beginning of the third set, but Union was able to tie it at nine. A eight point run put Henderson ahead, leading the Reddies to a 25-16 victory.Â

The fourth set was a battle between the two teams, but Henderson State slowly pulled away for the match clinching final, 25-19.

Union was led by Sexton with 27 assists, Rahn with 12 kills, Delaney with 12 digs andÂ
Delaney Peterson with six blocks.Â

Up next for Union is the Gulf South Conference opening at home versus Christian Brothers University, Tuesday, September 11 at 6 p.m.
