Christian Brothers pulls away from Union women's soccer

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team was defeated 5-0 by Christian Brothers University at Smith Soccer Complex. Union dropped to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 5-2-1 on the season and 4-1 in the GSC. 

Christian Brothers scored a couple of first half goals, both coming from Amanda Dutra. The first came in the 22nd minute with the second goal coming in the 36th minute. CUB led 2-0 at the half. The Lady Bucs out shot Union 17-5 in the first half, including 3-0 in corner kicks.  

Twelve minutes into the second half, CBU added to their lead with a goal from Anna Della Rosa, her fifth of the season. As the match was winding down with the Lady Bucs leading 3-0, Union committed a foul in the box, giving CBU a penalty kick in the 86th minute. Bailey Tadlock converted the PK. Then just 20 seconds later, CBU added a fifth goal when Bobbie Willis scored her first goal of the season. 

Christian Brothers out shot Union 34-8 in the match, including 17-6 in shots on goal. CBU led 5-0 in corner kicks, while Union committed 13 fouls to just one for CBU. 

Madison Studstill and Makaila Marsh led Union with two shots each. Anna Venckus, in net for the first half, and Karliegh Belnap finished with six saves each. 

Up next for Union will be a home GSC match, October 5 at 5 p.m. versus Delta State University.
