JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-13) to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Saturday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union dropped to 3-13 on the season and 0-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Huntsville improved to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in league play.
UAH jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first set, but Union responded with a 7-2 run to lead 9-7. After a few back-and-forth points, Alabama Huntsville took the lead for good at 13-12 and cruised to the 25-18 victory.
Set two was much closer throughout. UAH led early 14-9 but then Union rallied back with an 8-2 run to lead 17-16. Again, the set was back-and-forth for a while. With UAH clinging to a 22-21 lead, the Chargers scored three of the last four points to win the set.
The third set started with a point for Union, but UAH quickly took the lead and never trailed again. With UAH leading 8-6, the Chargers put the set away with seven straight points, running to the 25-13 sweep. UAH hit .444 in the third set and .208 for the match.
Union was led by Haley Ramsey, Christa Karns, and Delaney Peterson with six kills each. Rebecca Sexton led with 24 assists, Kristen Bukoswky led with five blocks, and Anna Claire Winchester led with 13 digs. Ramsey, Peterson, and Winchester each added one ace.
