Union volleyball rallies to win 3-2 at MC

CLINTON, Miss. - The Union University volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-11) at Mississippi College Friday night. Union improved to 4-13 on the season and 1-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College dropped to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in league play. 

In the first set, MC jumped up 11-5, but Union rallied back with four straight points. The set was close with the Choctaws edging Union 25-23. 

Union used a 5-0 run midway through the second set to lead 12-10. Union led again 16-14, but a 6-0 run by the Choctaws put MC up 20-16. MC took the second set 25-22. 

In the third set, Union turned an 8-5 deficit into a 13-9 lead thanks to an 8-1 run. Union maintained a slim lead for the rest of the way to a 25-20 win. 

Union scored the first five points of the fourth set. MC rallied to lead briefly 13-11 and 14-12. Union tied the match and never trailed again. With the set tied 19-19, Union scored five straight to take control and win 25-20 to even the match. 

Union took the lead early in the deciding set, doubling up MC 6-3 and again 10-5. The Choctaws rallied to tie the set at 11-11. Union then scored four straight points to win 15-11. Meghan Delaney got two kills in the final 4-0 run, including the match winner. 

Union was led by Delaney 14 kills, followed by Christa Karns with 11. Rebecca Sexton led with 41 assists, Kristen Bukowsky led with six blocks, and Delaney led with 18 digs and three aces.

Up next for Union is a home game against University of West Alabama Saturday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m.
