MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University women's cross country team earned first place at the Rhodes College Invitational. The 6K event took place at Shelby Farms and featured 20 teams and 168 runners. This was Union's first top finish since taking first place at Mississippi College last fall.Â
Union's top individual finisher was Valarie Jemutai in third place with a time of 22:41.Â
Union won the event with a team time of 1:57:44. Centre finished second (1:57:48), Memphis third (2:00:01), Harding fourth (2:01:29), and Berry fifth (2:01:32). Austin Peay, Mississippi College, Rhodes, Christian Brothers, and McMurry rounded out the top 10.
Other Union individual results included Gladys Kipchumba in seventh (23:06), Brinley Schenk in 11th (23:35), Jackline Ruto 17th (23:57), Abigail Bergquist 27th (24:23), Rebecca Tankersley 31st (24:49), Phoebe Onkware 27th (25:13), Amanda Leatherwood 57th (25:56), Gabbie Stevens 72nd (26:49), Anna Tankersley 82nd (27:13), MaryKate Leatherwood 118th (29:36), and Jordan Meadors 121st (29:58).
Up next for Union will be the Trevecca Nazarene University Invitational in Nashville September 22.Â
