JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team spilt a double-header against Rhodes College Thursday evening. Union won the first game, 4-3 but lost the second game 10-6. The Lady Bulldogs are now 15-24 on the season. The Lynx are now 20-14 overall.
In game one, Union scored two runs in the first inning with RBI from
Sarah Smith and
Peyton Mathis.
Samantha McDaniel singled to right field in the second inning, driving in two runs for Union. Rhodes scored their first run of the game in the third inning. The Lynx scored two more runs in the fifth inning to tie the game, 3-3. An RBI double from
Haley Barnette in the bottom of the fifth drove in Union's winning run.
Union was led by McDaniel and
Gabby Morris with two hits each. Morris (12-8) went the distance for the Lady Bulldogs giving up eight hits and three earned runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.
Rhodes College scored all 10 of its runs in the first inning.
Kristen Pickens scored on a wild pitch in the second inning. A sacrifice fly from Pickens in the third scored Smith. Later in the inning,
Parker Davis hit a 2-run single to left field and
Molly McKelvy drove in Union's fifth run of the game.
Emily Bennett scored Union's last run off a sacrifice fly after taking second and third base on a wild pitch.
Taylor Manley (2-6) started the ball game for the Lady Bulldogs pitching one-third of an inning, giving up four runs with three walks.
Taylor Griffith came in and gave up two hits and four runs with two walks. Davis tossed 6.2 innings in relief giving up five hits and two runs with four walks and four strikeouts.
Up next for Union is a three game conference series against the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Ala. starting Sunday, April 15 at 6 p.m.
