CLINTON, Miss. - The Union University baseball team posted an 11-6 win at Mississippi College Friday evening in the first of a 3-game weekend series. Union improved to 11-20 overall and 6-10 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College dropped to 20-8 on the season and 9-6 in league play.
Union trailed 5-0 after three innings, however, the Bulldogs exploded for eight runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to lead 10-5. The Union rally started with an RBI single from Spencer Schultz. Union added RBI singles from Zane Phillips, Chase Diggs, and David Robins, while also scoring a run on a bases loaded walk to Hayden Lewis. In the fifth inning, Robins laced a 2-RBI double down the left field line to put Union up 10-5. Nolen Milton added an RBI single in the eighth inning for the 11th unanswered run by the Bulldogs. MC added a run in the ninth to set the final at 11-6.
Both teams pounded out 12 hits in the game. Union was led by Milton with three hits, while Diggs, Robins, and Caleb DeMarigny added two hits each. Robins led with four RBI. JR Miller (4-3) earned the win, lasting 8.2 innings, giving up six runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts and four walks. However, after the third innings, Miller only allowed four hits and one run. Brady Cook the last out in his only batter faced with a strikeout.
Union and MC will finish their series Saturday, March 31 with a double-header at 1 p.m.
