JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team was defeated by University of Tennessee at Martin, 11-5, Tuesday night at Fesmire Field. Union dropped to 7-15 overall, while UT Martin improved to 4-12.
The Bulldogs took the lead in the first inning. Spencer Shultz and Nolen Milton scored on a double down the left field line by Zane Phillips.
The Skyhawks responded in the second inning with three runs, and then added a fourth run in the third.
In the sixth inning, UT Martin scored another run, extending their lead to 5-2.
David Robins 3-run double tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, 5-5.
The Skyhawks took the lead in the seventh inning, scoring four runs to go up 9-5. UTM added more insurance in the eighth inning, setting the final at 11-5.
Union had six hits, and Chase Diggs led with two. Sam McMillan (0-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs, and he gave up three runs and two walks. JD Fuzzell tossed 2.1 innings in the start, earning a no-decision. He gave up four runs, two earned runs, five walks, and one strikeout. Luis Larrinaga tossed for 3.2 innings in relief of Fuzell. He gave up one run, two walks, and had two strikeouts. Kory Pollard tossed for two innings in relief of McMillan. Pollard gave up three runs, two walks, and had one strikeout. Brady Cook tossed the final inning, giving up one hit and had one strikeout.
Up next for Union is a home series against Lee University starting on Friday night, March 16 at 6:00 p.m.
