North Alabama tops Union baseball 5-1

FLORENCE, Ala. - The Union University baseball hit the road for the first time this season and fell 5-1 at the University of North Alabama. Union dropped to 3-3 on the season, while North Alabama improved to 3-3. North Alabama is receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball National Rankings. 

Union scored their only run in the top of the first inning. Chase Diggs led of the game with a hit. Later in the inning, Zane Phillips drove in Diggs on a ground out. UNA then scattered five unanswered runs over the next eight innings. The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the first on a solo home run from Hubbuch. A run in the third, two in the sixth, and one in the eighth set the final at 5-1. 

Skyler Harrison (1-1) started on the mound for Union. The senior went 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and a strike out. Scott Shearer tossed 2.2 innings, allowing no hits and striking out four. JD Fuzzell allowed two runs, one earned in one inning of work. Brady Cook and Luis Larrinaga also tossed one inning each. Cook allowed no runs, while Larrinaga allowed one run. 

Nolen Milton and Spencer Schultz led Union with two hits each, while three other players recorded on hit each for a total of seven hits. Logan Carter led UNA with two of his team's seven hits. Union committed the game's only error. 

Up next for Union will be a 3-game home series versus No. 17/No. 28 Lindenwood (Mo.) starting Friday, February 16 at 3 p.m.
