No. 17 Lindenwood sweeps Union baseball 6-3, 2-1

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Union University baseball team dropped a double-header at Lindenwood University Saturday evening. Lindenwood, ranked No. 17 in the Collegiate Baseball Ranking and receiving votes in the NABWA poll, won game one 6-3 and took the second game 2-1. Union dropped to 3-5 on the season, while Lindenwood improved to 5-3.

The games were originally schedule to be played at Union, but the location was moved due to all the rain in West Tennessee.

Lindenwood scored first in the first. The scored stayed 1-0 until Union tied the game in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Nolen Milton. Lindenwood broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Union got a run in the sixth on an RBI triple from Josh Bozoian and one in the eighth on a wild pitch. Union out-hit Lindenwood 10-8 in the game, while Lindenwood had the game's only error. JR Miller (2-1) took his first loss of the year, going 4.2 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Brady Cook tossed the final 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on no hits with one walk. Caleb DeMarigny was 3-for-4 to lead Union.

Game two was more of a pitchers' dual. Lindenwood again scored first in with a run in the first. Union tied the game in the third inning when DeMarigny scored an unearned run. Lindenwood added the winning run in the fifth. Both teams recorded four hits and each had one error. Union's Scott Shearer (1-2) tossed a complete game for Union, allowing two runs, one earned on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Union got one hit from four different players.

The two teams will play again at 1 p.m. February 18. Union will return home for four games next week, including a non-conference game Tuesday at 1 p.m. versus Harding (Ark.) and their GSC opening series February 24-25 versus Shorter.
