Union softball names Murray as assistant coach

JACKSON, Tenn. - Paige Murray has been named assistant coach for the Union University softball program. Head coach Mackenzie Sher made the announcement this week and Murray will begin her work immediately.

Sher said, "I am excited to have Paige join our Union family! She is full of energy, experienced, and committed to learning more about the game, daily. Her passion for coaching is a reflection of her love for Christ. I am thankful to have her on staff."

Murray comes to Union after spending the fall of 2018 as the assistant coach at Caldwell Parish High School.

"I am so thankful that God has blessed me with the opportunity to be a part of this University," Murray said. "Coach Mackenzie and Coach Matt have been outstanding and I am excited to get to work with them and this team. I believe that great things are happening here, and I am looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish together."

In addition to her time as a high school assistant coach, Murray coached the Bullet NELA 12U and 14U travel ball teams in the fall of 2018. She also worked as a pitching coach to 7-14 year-olds from 2012 through 2018.

Murray is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She earned a B.S. degree in mathematics in 2017 and then followed up with a B.S. degree in computer science in 2018.

Murray played four years at the NCAA D1 level at Louisiana-Monroe. She was named to the Commissioner's List and Academic Honor Roll. Murray tossed a perfect game in 2016 versus Gambling State and a complete game shutout against Abilene Christian to send her team to the 2017 NISC Region title game. She tossed 185 innings as a senior with the lowest number of walks per seven innings on the team.

Murray prepped at S&S Consolidated High School where she graduated in 2014. She was a four-year starter in softball and earned two letters in volleyball. Murray was named first team all-district pitcher and academic all-district all four years. She was also named academic all-state. She set a school record for strikeouts by a freshman with 197 and holds the season strikeout record with 237. As a senior, she also hit .600 at the plate.
