JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team defeated Brescia University 109-50 Monday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union, ranked No. 4 in the WBCA Coaches' Poll and No. 2 by the D2SIDA Media poll, improved to 5-0 on the season. Brescia dropped to 0-6.
Brescia jumped ahead of Union by six points to start the game, but the Lady Bulldogs responded with a 17-2 run to take control. Union outscored Brescia 37-5 over the remainder of the quarter, included six three-pointers to close out the quarter. The Lady Bulldogs scored 67 points in the first half, the third most points in a half in program history.
In the third quarter, Union held the Bearcats to nine points and extended their lead to 53 points. The Lady Bulldogs had their largest lead of the game, 61 points, with 33 seconds left in the game after a layup from
Elli Pratt. The final score was 109-50.
Union scored 48 of their points in the paint, and the Union bench pitched in 54 points. The Lady Bulldogs forced 25 turnovers and had 42 rebounds. The Bearcats forced nine turnovers and had 21 turnovers.
This was Union's fourth game in a row to have four or more players in the double digits. The Lady Bulldogs were led by
Morgan Martin with 19 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.
Emily Beard had 17 points, including 5-8 from three-point range.
Avree Carpenter added 17 points, and
Tiffany Rechis had 12 points.
Jada Perkins led in assists with seven and scored 13 points, including 6-6 from the field.
The Lady Bulldogs were 53 percent from the field, 43 percent (14-32) from three-point range, and 75 percent (15-20) from the foul line.
Brescia was led by Aaliyah Rodgers with eight points and five rebounds. India Wade also added eight points. The Bearcats were 33 percent from the field, 30 percent (6-20) from long range, and 61 percent (8-13) from the foul line.
Next up for Union two away games at No. 23 Valdosta State University, November 29 at 5:00 p.m. and at West Florida on December 1 at 2:00 p.m. to open up Gulf South Conference play.
