CARROLTON, GA- The Union University volleyball team was defeated by the University of West Georgia 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 27-25) Friday night. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 4-17 overall and 1-7 in Gulf South Conference play, and the Wolves improved to 10-6 and 5-4 in conference play.
In the first set, Union started with a small lead then West Georgia went on a 5-0 run, giving the Wolves the lead they did not give up the rest of the set. The final score of the first set 25-15.
West Georgia started the second set with a 6-1 lead, but the Lady Bulldogs cut it back within three after a service ace by Delaney Peterson. Union stayed within five points, until West Georgia went on a 5-0 run to end the set.
In the third set, both teams played even with the Wolves keeping the lead. Union trailed match point 24-21, but rattled off three straight points to tie the game. But West Georgia scored the next two and won 27-25.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Meghan Delaney with 10 kills, Abbie Rahn with 13 digs, Rebecca Sexton with 12 assists, and Sarah Adams, Christa Karns, Alyssa Tatsch, and Kristen Bukowksy with three blocks each.
Next up for Union is another GSC matchup at Valdosta State Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
