VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Union University volleyball team fell to Valdosta State University 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-17) Saturday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs are now 4-18 on the season and 1-8 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta improved to 10-11 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
Valdosta scored three quick points in the first set, but Union fought back to tie at 4-4. Valdosta's five point run gave the Lady Blazers a lead they kept until the end of the set.
In the second set, Valdosta scored five straight points forcing Union into an early timeout. A kill by Delaney Peterson put Union on the board. A six point run from Union brought the Lady Bulldogs within three points of the Lady Blazers. Union fought back to gain a 23-22. Valdosta scored the last three points to win the set.
Union kept the lead early in the third set and battled back-and-forth for points until a five point run gave Valdosta the lead they needed to gain momentum and win the set.
Union was led by Peterson with 13 kills, Rebecca Sexton with 23 assists, Abbie Rahn recorded 14 digs along with 11 digs from Haley Ramsey.
Up next for Union is University of West Florida at home on Friday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m.
