No. 13 West Florida tops Union volleyball 3-0

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team fell to #13 University of West Florida 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-22) at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 4-19 overall and 1-9 in Gulf South Conference play. The Argos improved to 17-4 overall and 9-1 in conference play. 

In the first set, West Florida started with a 4-0 run. Haley Ramsey gave the Lady Bulldogs their first point of the set with a kill. The Argos extended their lead, but a kill from Meghan Delaney brought the Lady Bulldogs back within five points at 10-5. West Florida finished the set decisively with a score of 25-11. 

In the second set, West Florida took a small lead, but Union stayed within two points most of the set. The two teams tied six times during the set. The largest lead of the set was by West Florida at 19-15. Union tied the game at 19-19, but the Argos held out to win 25-23. 

Both teams played close in the final set as well, tying the game six times. The Argos led by as many as five points, 13-8. Union closed the gap to two points four times in the third set, but the Argos held on to win the set 25-22. 

Union was led by Delaney with eight kills, Rebecca Sexton with 13 assists, Kristen Bukowsky with six blocks, and Abbie Ran with 13 digs. 

Up next for Union is another home Gulf South conference match against Auburn-Montgomery, Saturday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m.
