JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's volleyball team fell to Harding University 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-18) Tuesday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium in a non-conference match. Union dropped to 5-20 on the season, while Harding improved to 17-7.
Harding scored first in all three sets, and never trailed during the first two sets. The Bison jumped pulled away to a 14-6 lead after a 5-0 run in the first set. The Bison closed out the first set, scoring six of the final seven points to win 25-12. The second set continued with Harding holding momentum, jumping out to a quick 8-2 lead. The teams played even over the rest of the set with Union getting as close as five points, 22-17, before the Bison closed out the set with two points.
In the third set, Union trailed early, 8-4. However, the Lady Bulldogs scored five straight to gain their first lead of the match 9-8. Union held the lead three times including their last at 16-15. Harding closed out the set and match by scoring 10 of the final 12 points.
Union was led by Meghan Delaney with five kills and Rebecca Sexton with 11 assists. Sexton led with two aces, Bukowsky led with three blocks, and Abbie Rahn led with 19 digs.
Up next for Union will be the South Region Crossover Classic hosted by the Sunshine State Conference in Orlando, Fla., Friday and Saturday, October 19-20.
