McKENZIE, Tenn. - The Union University softball team split in midweek action to Bethel University Wednesday. Union took the first game 11-1 in five innings, but fell short in the second game, 4-3.

GAME ONE
WHAT HAPPENED
- Union and Bethel remained scoreless through three innings of play. Union was able to push three runs across in the top of the fourth. Ashley Scott would score on an error by the center fielder on a Gabby Morris's double. Morris also advances on the error setting Haley Barnette up for the sacrifice fly to left field. LaDesha Nelson would then single to right center to score Paige Robertson who reached on a walk.
- The Lady Bulldogs then put up eight runs in the fifth putting the game out of reach for the Lady Wildcats. Bethel would score in the bottom half of the inning, but Union pulled of the victory, 11-1, by mercy rule.

POSTGAME STATS
- Union tallied 11 hits in the game with Ashley Scott leading the way with three RBIs, two runs scored, and going 2-for-4. Paige Robertson led the team with four RBIs on her grand slam in the fifth inning. Robertson was 1-for-2 in the game.
- Hannah Ridolfi (12-7) earned the win giving up one run on three hits while striking out three.

GAME TWO
WHAT HAPPENED
- Union's Emily Bennett led off the game with a single up the middle. Bennett would then steal second base and move to third on Scott's ground out. Gabby Morris would score Bennett on a sacrifice fly to right field to put the Lady Bulldogs on top, 1-0, in the first inning.
- Bethel would take their first lead of the day in the bottom of the second. The Lady Wildcats would score on a passed ball and RBI single to go up 2-0.
- Bethel put up two more runs in the next inning on a sacrifice fly and an RBI ground out.
- The Lady Bulldogs got within one run, 4-3, of the Lady Wildcats in the top of the sixth on a two-run homer from Paige Robertson, her second on the day. The rally would fall short as Union fell 4-3.

POSTGAME STATS
- Paige Robertson led the way for Union going 1-for-3 picking up two RBIs and one run scored.
- Gabby Morris (5-7) got the loss in her two innings of work. Morris gave up three runs, two earned on three hits. Parker Davis came on in relief, tossing four innings giving up an unearned run on two hits.
- Bethel's Brooke Baucum got the win, going all seven innings giving up three runs on five hits while striking out six Union batters.

UP NEXT
Union will return to Gulf South Conference play as they host the University of West Florida for a three-game series. The Lady Bulldogs and Argonauts will face off in a Saturday double-header starting at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
