COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Union University softball team won big in the final day of the Southern Softball Showdown. The Lady Bulldogs won their first game of the day 10-1 by mercy rule against Flagler College. Union would then get the victory over Lynn University 2-0 to end the weekend with a 3-1 overall record.

Game 1
WHAT HAPPENED
- Union scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Ashley Scott picked up an RBI on a ground out to score Emily Bennet who led off the game with a triple. Rachel Ridolfi would come up later in the inning with two outs to score Paige Robertson and Haley Barnette on a double to center field. Ridolfii would come around to score on a homerun by Gabby Morris to bring the score to 5-0.
- Flagler would get a run back in the top of the second on triple to right field to cut the score to 5-1.
- The Lady Bulldogs would score five more runs in the bottom of the third inning all with two outs. Bennett walked with the bases loaded to score the first run of the inning. Scott would then single up the middle to score LaDesha Nelson and Morris. Hannah Ridolfi would then single up the middle to score Bennett. Lastly, Scott scored on an error by Flagler to set the score, 10-1.
- Union would hold of Flagler to take the game by mercy rule in the fifth inning.
POSTGAME STATS
- Ashley Scott led the way going 1-for-3 with 3 RBI's. Rachel Ridolfi and Gabby Morris added two RBI's each.
- Hannah Ridolfi pitched all five innings giving up four hits and one run with two strikeouts.
- Flagler was led by Garland Evans going 1-for-2 with the lone RBI for FC.
Game 2
WHAT HAPPENED
- Union and Lynn seemed to be in a pitcher's duel in the finale of the Southern Softball Showdown. Union was able to strike first in the bottom of the second inning on a double from Gabby Morris that scored Rachel Ridolfi who reached on a walk to lead Lynn, 1-0.
- The Lady Bulldogs would score again in the bottom of the fifth after LaDesha Nelson scored on an error by Lynn's third baseman.
- Union used three pitchers in the game to combine for the win, 2-0.
POSTGAME STATS
- Gabby Morris started the game on the mound throwing one inning giving up two hits and two walks. Parker Davis would then come in to pitch four innings giving up four hits with three strikeouts. Hannah Ridolfi would bring in the win home after going two innings giving up just one hit, one walk, and striking out three.
- Along with her pitching efforts, Morris led the Lady Bulldogs going 3-for-3 with one RBI.
- Lynn would out hit Union 7-6, but errors plagued the Fighting Knights to drop the game. Lynn was led by Olexa and Wright each going 2-for-4.
UP NEXT
Union will host their first home games of the season in the Union University Softball Classic. The Lady Bulldogs will host Maryville University Friday, February 10 at 1 p.m. and will then face off against Tusculum College at 5 p.m. the same day.
