JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team split in their home opening double header. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Maryville University in extra innings, 3-2. Union would then take a tough loss to Tusculum College, 6-4.

Game 1
WHAT HAPPENED
The game remained tied until the top of the fourth inning when Maryville scored their first run on a double to centerfield.
In the bottom of the seventh inning,
Abby Swilley came up clutch for the Lady Bulldogs. Swilley singled to centerfield to score
Emily Boone who was pinch-running for
Paige Robertson who singled up the middle.
The game would go to international tie breaker in the top of the eighth inning. The Saints would take advantage as the runner on second stole third and would come around to score on a single by Sheridon Sprague.
Union had to score in the bottom half of the eight, and they would get the job done.
Hannah Ridolfi would fly out to right, but
Marley Dyess would score on the throwing error by the right fielder.
Gabby Morris would end the game with a single down the right field line to score
Ashley Scott who reached on a single.
POSTGAME STATS
Ashley Scott led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Gabby Morris and
Abby Swilley each had an RBI in the win.
Hannah Ridolfi started the game on the mound and would pitch the first four and come back in the eighth inning to record the win. Ridolfi gave up two runs, one earned on four hits with seven strikeouts.
Parker Davis came on in relief to go three innings giving up just one hit and striking out one Maryville batter.
The Saints were led by Bri Livingston going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Nikki Taylor took the loss on the mound going 7.2 innings giving up three runs, one earned, on eight hits and striking out three.
Game 2
WHAT HAPPENED
Tusculum College kicked off the scoring in the top of the third when back to back singles scored a run each to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
Union came back in the bottom of the fourth to score four runs. The first two runs came from a 2-RBI single from
Paige Robertson.
Hailey Cummings would then get an RBI on a ground out to the shortstop.
LaDesha Nelson would then score Robertson on a single to left field to give the Lady Bulldogs a 4-2 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Tusculum's bats came alive again scoring three runs. The Pioneers would then put up another run in the sixth inning to take the lead, 6-4. Union was unable to answer the runs to take their first home loss.
POSTGAME STATS
Paige Robertson led the Lady Bulldogs going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI's.
Gabby Morris also had two hits in the game.
Taylor Griffith took her first loss of the season after coming in to relieve
Gabby Morris. Union used four pitchers in the game.
Tusculum was led by Delaney Guerrero going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Taylor Plemons got the win going 3.2 innings in relief.
