JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team got back in the win column after taking two games from LeMoyne-Owen College. The Lady Bulldogs took down the Magicians 13-0 and 11-0 both by way of mercy rule. The Union pitchers also combined for two no-hitters on the day. Union improved to 8-5 on the season while LeMoyne-Owen dropped to 0-2.

Game 1
WHAT HAPPENED
- Union jumped on top in the bottom of the first with a six-run inning. Abby Swilley got the scoring started with a single to left field to score Emily Bennett from second. Union scored next on a triple to right field by Ashley Scott who picked up two RBIs on the hit. Scott would then score on a single by LaDesha Nelson. Kristen Pickens would put the cap on the first inning to score Nelson on a single to the shortstop.
- The Lady Bulldogs would pick up another run in the bottom half of the second on a sacrifice fly from Swilley to score Bennett.
- Ashley Scott led off the third inning with a solo homer to left field to put Union up 8-0. Nelson then reached after being hit by the pitch, and would come around to score on a single by Samantha Ortiz. Ortiz would then score on a single by Hannah Ridolfi to bring the score to 10-0.
- Nelson would pick up two RBIs in the bottom of the fourth on a single through the left side that scored Scott and Robertson. The Lady Bulldogs picked up their last run of the game when pinch-hitter Molly McKelvy earned a bases loaded walk to set the final 13-0.
POSTGAME STATS
- Ashley Scott led the Lady Bulldogs going 3-for-3 picking up three RBIs and three runs scored. Scott was a single short of the cycle in the game.
- Union pitchers, Gabby Morris (2-1) and Taylor Griffith combined for a no-hitter in the ballgame. Morris recorded seven strikeouts in three innings of work while Griffith pitched two innings and struck out two.
Game 2
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Lady Bulldogs kept their bats hot in the second game of the double header. Gabby Morris would send a ball over the right center field fence to pick up two RBIs to give Union the early 2-0 lead.
- The Lady Bulldogs would then put up eight runs in the bottom half of the third to take a 10-0 lead. Marley Dyess got things going with a single up the middle to score Hailey Cummings. Alyssa Merritt would then send a fly ball out to center to pick up the sacrifice fly RBI that scored Haley Barnette. Dyess would finally come around to score on a single from Rachel Ridolfi who advanced to second on the throw from the outfield. Emily Bennett reached on an error by the shortstop but picked up the RBI on the play that scored Parker Davis. Morris send a screamer back at the pitcher for a single that scored Davis and move Bennett to second. Bennett scored from second on a single down the left field line by Paige Robertson. Cummings would pick up Union's last two runs of the inning on a double to left center that scored Robertson and Morris.
- The Lady Bulldogs picked up their final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth when Parker Davis hit into a fielder's choice with runners on first and third to score Emily Boone from third.
POSTGAME STATS
- Again, Union's pitching was solid as Parker Davis (2-0) and Ashley Graves picked up the combined no-hitter. Davis went three innings and struck out five, and Graves came on in relief to throw the final two innings and would strikeout three.
- Emily Bennett, Gabby Morris, and Hailey Cummings all had two hits in the game. Morris led with three RBIs while Cummings had two.
UP NEXT
The Lady Bulldogs will host their first Gulf South Conference series of the season against the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs. Union will play a double header Saturday, February 25 with games starting at 1 and 3 p.m. The final game of the series will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
