JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University baseball team won their final game of the season taking down UT Martin 7-6 on Tuesday evening.
Union raced out of the gates in the bottom of the first leading the game off with three straight hits from
Zach Wylie,
Tyler Mauzy and
Dylan Moore. All three Bulldogs came into score in the inning putting Union ahead 3-0.
The Skyhawks got on the board in the next frame after a leadoff walk came around to score on a base hit from Mike Murphy. UT Martin put two more runs on the board in the third following another leadoff walk with a deep double to left center and another single tying the game at 3-3.
Union answered in the bottom half of the third after
Dylan Moore doubled to left center and was pushed home on an RBI single form
Ryne Roper up the middle. The Bulldogs pushed another run across in the fifth after a leadoff single from Wylie who came around to score on a sacrifice fly ball from Moore to push the Union lead to 5-3.
The Skyhawks put together a rally in the sixth scoring three runs on three hits including a double and triple to lead by one run, 6-5.
Union rallied in the bottom half of the sixth after falling behind when
Nolen Milton launched his second homer of the year scoring
Matthew Duncan who led off the inning with a walk that put Union ahead 7-6 and the Bulldogs held on in the final three frames to seal the victory.
The top four hitters in Union's lineup led the way at the plate with two hits a piece with all four batters either scoring on driving in runs in the win.
Teddy Christie started the game for Union on just three days of rest going 5.1 innings giving up five runs on seven hits before being relieved by
Andrew Wilson who earned his first win of the year going just 0.2 innings of work.
Marty Coursey threw the final three innings of the game allowing just one runner to reach.
Union finished their season with 20 wins for the first time in four years after finishing with just seven wins in the 2015 campaign. The Bulldogs graduate just one senior,
Matthew Duncan, from the 2016 squad.
