Union baseball holds off Trevecca Nazarene 7-5

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team posted a 7-5 win at Trevecca Nazarene University Tuesday evening. Union improved to 16-16 overall, while Trevecca dropped to 17-13 overall.
 
Union scored early with six runs in the first two innings and held on to snap a 3-game skid. Union score twice in the first on a sacrifice fly from Ryne Roper and a RBI single form Zach Phillips.
 
After a solo home run from Trevecca in the bottom of the first, Union scored four times in the second. Four separate RBI singles from Dylan Moore, Roper, Bailey Holbrook and Hayden Lewis put the Bulldogs in command.
 
Trevecca added an unearned run in the fourth, another run in the fifth and a two run home run in the seventh to cut Union lead to just 6-5.
 
Union added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a Phillips home run to set the score at 7-5.
 
Brady Cook started on the mound for Union, retiring the first two batters before having to leave the game with an injury. Skyler Harrison (5-2) tossed the next 6.1 innings of relief and earned the win. Harrison allowed five runs, four earned on nine hits with 11 strikeouts and just two walks. Andrew Wilson tossed one inning of relief while Joe Hudson (4) earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
 
Zach Wylie, Holbrook and Phillips each led Union with two hits each. Roper and Phillips led with two RBI each.
 
Up next for Union will be a three game GSC series at home vs. Lee University this weekend, April 9 and 10.
