JACKSON, Tennessee- The Union University baseball team split their double header with Valdosta State to move to 14-8 on the season and 8-5 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Bulldogs fell behind early in the first game when Valdosta State put up three runs in the first inning on an RBI double, RBI single and a sacrifice fly. They added runs in the second and third innings that put them up 5-0 after three innings. The Blazers put three more runs up in the sixth and and seventh to stretch their lead to 8-0.
Union could never get offensive momentum going in the game and could not avoid the shutout.

Caleb DeMarigny each had two singles in the game.
Marty Coursey started the game for Union going 5.1 innings giving up seven run on nine hits. Andrew Willson and
Nate Moenning came into the game in relief to toss the final 3.2 innings of the game.
In game two of the double header, the Bulldogs were the ones to get on the board first when
Tyler Mauzy came in to score on an RBI single from
Zach Wylie to give Union the 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs opened the game up in the bottom of the sixth stringing together three straight RBI hits from
Dylan Moore,
Zach Wylie and
Bailey Holbrook that gave Union the 4-0 lead for the eventual final score.
Teddy Christie had a dominating game on the mound throwing all seven innings without giving up a run. Christie also recorded nine strikeouts while only allowing five hits in the contest.
Tyler Mauzy continued his hot hitting from the first game of the double header going 2-for-2 with two singles and a run scored.
Dylan Moore and
Zach Wylie also finished the game with two hits a piece with Wylie driving home two runs.
Union finishes their GSC series with the rubber game taking place Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Union is at home during the week with a single game against Harding on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
