Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team suffered their second overtime loss in a week as the Bulldogs fell 90-82 at Christian Brothers Thursday night. Union dropped to 12-5 on the season and 6-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 8-9 overall and 6-5 in league play.
Union lost a double overtime game Saturday at Alabama Huntsville. In both games, Union held the lead with the opponent making a game-tying shot in the final seconds to force overtime. The loss for Union was also their fifth straight GSC road loss on the season. After winning their first road game of the year at Mississippi College, Union is now 1-5 away from home in GSC play. The Bulldogs also dropped into a tie for sixth place with Christian Brothers with 6-5 records at the halfway point of the GSC schedule.
Union opened the game with 3-pointer from Jordan Montgomery as the Bulldog jumped out to an 8-2 early lead. Christian Brothers responded and took their first lead, 14-13, with 13:56 left. CBU maintained a single digit lead for the rest of the half, eventually, taking a 37-30 lead into halftime.
In the second half, CBU opened play with a 3-pointer to push their lead to double figures. The Bucs maintain control, extending their lead to as many as 15 points, 62-47, with 8:41 left in the game.
However, Union stormed back, outscoring CBU 29-12 over the next eight minutes. With 21 seconds left in the game, Union's Marterrace Brock put the Bulldogs back on top with a jumper, giving Union the 76-74 lead. After a timeout, CBU got the back to Adam Dieball for a layup with five seconds left to tie the game, sending it to overtime.
In overtime, Union ran out of gas as CBU score the first six points of the extra period. CBU won the overtime period 14-6 to preserve the home victory.
Union was led by Brock with 23 points. Montgomery and Ashanti Day scored 16 points each, while Roy Bullock added 10 points. Union shot 47 percent from the field, 33 percent (7-21) from 3-point range and 74 percent (17-23) from the free throw line.
Christian Brothers was led by Hildreth with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Larkin added 18 points, Dieball scored 16 points, Miller scored 15 and Trentman added 10. The Bucs shot 47 percent from the field, 41 percent (11-27) from long range and 72 percent (13-18) from the free throw line.
