Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla.- The Union University women's softball team split a double header against West Florida on Saturday thanks to a no-hitter from senior pitcher
Kelly Robey. Union improved to 12-8 on the season and 4-6 in Gulf South Conference play while the Argos moved to 5-15 overall and 3-8 in conference.
Game 1: Union 4, West Florida 0
Union got things going in the top of the first inning with
Madison Tennyson ripping a ball into the outfield for a leadoff double. Tennyson was pushed to third after two walks then scored on a single through the right side to give Union the lead. With the bases still loaded, the next batter,
Carlie Brickley drew another walk to push home
Reagan Schrader for the Lady Bulldogs second run of the game.
The Lady Bulldogs would add another run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Schrader that scored
Emily Bennett and again in the top of the seventh when
Summer Cross was driven home on a single from
Carter Mansolino that set the final score at 4-0.
The real story of the game happened in the pitching circle with senior pitcher
Kelly Robey throwing her sixth career no-hitter for Union after going seven innings and recording six strikeouts to earn the win. Only two batters reached base for Argos in the game, both on walks.
Bennett led Union at the plate going 2-for-3 with the run scored in the fifth inning.
Rebecca Hein earned the loss tossing complete game for West Florida allowing four runs on seven hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Game 2: West Florida 10, Union 2
Union kept the momentum from the first game by striking first in the top of the third inning when Bennett scored after reaching on a double to left center. Two batters later Tennyson was batted in on the single to left field from Schrader.
West Florida wouldn't get on the board until the bottom of the fifth inning when they scoried six runs on six hits including a two RBI double from Jenna Besler to give the Argos the 6-2 lead.
After a scoreless top of the sixth for Union, West Florida kept the runs coming in the bottom half of the inning putting four more on the board on 3 hits and two Union errors to set the final at 10-2.
Sarah Kreuter led the Lady Bulldogs in the second game going 2-for-3 with two singles. Robey started the game for Union going 4.1 innings giving up six runs on six hits while striking out four to earn the loss.
Megan Wolinsky finshed the game for Union throwing the final 1.1 innings.
Kalyn Chapman started on the mound for West Florida throwing a complete game allowing 7 hits without giving up any earned runs. Besler led the way at the plate for the Argos finishing the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Union will finish up their three game series against West Florida tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. before traveling to the University of Montevallo for a two game series on Wednesday afternoon.
