VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Union University softball team fell in three games this weekend at the nation's No. 1 ranked Valdosta State University. Union lost 3-0 and 9-1 Saturday, then fell 2-0 Sunday in the final game of the series. Union dropped to 20-14 on the season and 8-12 in the Gulf South Conference. Top-ranked Valdosta State improved to 34-2 overall and 19-1 in league play. 
In the final game of the series, Union's 
Kelly Robey (17-10) tossed a two-hitter, allowing just two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the loss. Valdosta State's Calhoun (20-1) earned the win, with 
Carter Mansolino and 
Caylee Crews managed the only two hits for Union in the game. Robey posted 14 strikeouts in the loss. 
The second game of the series was all Valdosta State as they flexed their offensive muscle, pounding out 11 hits, six extra base hits, including three home runs. The score was 0-0 heading into the bottom of the third when the Blazers struck for three runs. They added two in the fifth and four in the sixth to end the game one inning early. Union managed a run in the top of the fifth when 
Summer Cross laced and RBI double to center field. 
Paige Taylor (1-1) took the loss for Union, allowing three runs on four hits in three innings of work. 
Annette Castaldo and 
Megan Wolinsky tossed a combined 2.2 innings of work in relief. Cross was 2-for-3 in the game with the RBI. 
It was Robey again in game one of the series keeping Union close with her efforts on the mound. She allowed three runs, two earned, with six strikeouts and four hits in her complete game outing. However, Calhoun of Valdosta State stopped Union's offense with a no-hitter and 14 strikeouts in her seven innings of work. The Blazers scored two in the third and one in the fifth to win 3-0. 
Union is off until this weekend when they host conference foe Christian Brothers Friday and Saturday at Union's Fesmire Field. Start times are 1 p.m. both days.
