Union softball sweeps Blue Mountain 8-0, 4-3

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball posted a double-header sweep over Blue Mountain (Miss.) College Tuesday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union improved to 20-11 on the season, while Blue Mountain dropped to 2-8 overall.

Union's Kelly Robey (16-7), the reigning Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week, continued her solid pitching with a complete game five inning no-hitter in game one. She struck out seven hitters and walked just one. Offensive, Union's Madison Tennyson, Reagan Schrader, Carter Mansolino and Hailey Cummings each led the way with two hits each. Mansolino, Cummings and Whitney Christian led with two RBI each. Union scored three runs in the first inning. Mansolino walked with the bases loaded for the first run, while Christian's single up the middle plated the other two runs. Union added a run in the third when Cummings' single scored Mansolino. Union capped off the scoring with four in the fourth with three RBI singles and a throwing error.

In the second game, Union found themselves in trouble as they were being no-hit until a single from Schrader in the fourth. Union was still down 3-0 after Blue Mountain posted single tallies in the first, third and fourth innings. Union trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the seven inning. Cummings led off with a walk, followed by singles from Carlie Brickley and Caylee Crews to load the bases. Emily Bennett then drove in the first run with a single up the middle. After a pop-up for the first out, Madison Tennyson laced a double to left field, tying the game at 3-3. However, Tennyson was called out for passing a runner in the baselines. With two outs, Schrader singled to left driving in the winning run as Bennett cross the plate. Megan Wolinsky started for Union, allowing two runs in two innings. Annette Castaldo allowed one run in her two innings of relief. Robey tossed the final three innings of scoreless ball to pick up her second win of the day. Sloan (2-3) for Blue Mountain took the loss after keeping Union off the board for six innings. Schrader led Union with three hits in the game, while Tennyson led with a pair of RBI.
