JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team posted a 78-73 win over Rhodes College in an exhibition game. Union led by as many as 19 points in the second half. 

This was the first of two exhibition games for Union. Union will travel to NCAA DI Utah State University November 20 for their other exhibition game. 

Rhodes opened the game with a 3-pointer from JJ Weir and followed with a basket from Brennan Sullivan to lead 5-0. Union responded with a 6-0 run. The teams went back and forth for the rest of the half with neither team leading by more than 4 points. Union held a slim 43-39 lead at the break. 

In the second half, Rhodes scored four straight to tie the game at 43-43. Then Union exploded with a 14-0 run to gain control. With 7:34 left in the game, a 3-pointer from Jordan Montgomery put Union up 19 points, 73-54. 

Rhodes did not go away. With a 14-3 run over the next six minutes to get back into the game. Rhodes cut Union's deficit to seven points, 77-70, in the final minute. Union's Serigne Mboup made one of two free throws followed by a Rhodes 3-pointer at the buzzer to set the final scored at 78-73. 

Both teams had 28 points in the paint, while Union dominated with 29-14 advantage in points off turnovers. 

Union had four players in double figures led by Marterrace Brock with 18 points. KC Goodwin added 17 points, while Ashanti Day scored 14 and Montgomery added 11. Union shot 47 percent from the field, 32 percent (7-22) from long range and 74 percent (23-31) from the free throw line. 

Rhodes was led by A. Muhammad with 20 points and Sullivan with 19. The Lynx shot 43 percent from the field, 33 percent (7-21) from 3-point range and 73 percent (8-11) form the free throw line. 

Up next for Union will be their regular season opener in the Spring Hill (Ala.) Classic November 13-14.
