JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball team posted a 110-57 win over Stillman (Ala.) College Saturday to close out the Union Thanksgiving Classic. Union stayed perfect on the season at 6-0, while Stillman dropped to 3-3.
In the win, Union sank 26 three pointers which set the school record and the Gulf South Conference record for the second time in four games. Union set the old records of 24 made 3's in a game in their win over Rust back on November 18.
Union jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game and never looked back. Union led 28-12 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Union used a 17-0 run to push out to a 58-21 lead at the half.
Tiffany Rechis led the way with 15 points on five 3-pointers in the first half.
Kelsey Risner had 12 first half points on four 3-pointers.
In the second half, Union added 52 more points to extend the final score to 110-57.
Bethany Lytle, playing in just her second game with Union coming off an injury, added 13 second half points with four 3-pointers.
Jada Smith also scored 13 points in the second half with four 3-pointers.
Union was led by Smith with 20 points while adding nine assists. Rechis scored 20 points on six 3-pointers. Lytle finished with 16 points and five 3-pointers. Risner and
Chelsea Bodiford had 15 points each, both with five 3-pointers.
Tiara Caldwell led with 10 rebounds, while
Jada Perkins led with 10 assists. Union shot 55 percent from the field, 59 percent (26-44) from 3-point range and 73 percent (8-11) from the free throw line.
Stillman was led by Victoria Douglas and Eulacia Edwards with 12 points each. Shenia Battle added 11 points. Stillman shot 31 percent from the field, 20 percent (3-15) from long range and 63 percent (12-19) from the free throw line.
Union will now enter GSC play for the rest of the regular season, opening at home, Thursday, December 3 at 6 p.m. versus Shorter (Ga.).
