Union softball in title game with 5-2 win over Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – The Union University softball team posted a 5-2 win over host Mississippi College in the 2014 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) MidEast Region Tournament. The win leaves Union the only team without a loss and advances the Lady Bulldogs to the championship game at 5:00 p.m. Thursday.
 
Union (27-25) is the defending MidEast Region and NCCAA National Tournament champions.
 
Union scored first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Alex Williams drilled a 2-run home run to scored Reagan Schrader, putting Union on top 2-0.
 
Union added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to go up 5-0. Amanda Chandler got the RBI in the fourth on a ground out. In the fifth it was Erin Picard's RBI double that put Union up 4-0. Then in the sixth inning, Summer Cross singled to score Williams.
 
Mississippi College added two runs in the top of the seventh to set the final at 5-2.
 
Union was led by Williams with a 3-for-3 day with three runs and two RBI including the home run. Union outhit Mississippi College 7-5 in the win. Kelly Robey (21-18) tossed the complete game, allowing two runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts.
 
Mississippi College was led by Shay Mickens with a 2-for-2 game. E. Kelly (9-6) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in her complete game effort.
