Union softball splits at Trevecca Nazarene

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Union University softball team earned a double-header split at Trevecca Nazarene University Wednesday afternoon. Union took the first game 1-0, before falling in game two, 2-1. Union is now 23-18 on the season, while Trevecca Nazarene is now 21-8 overall.
 
In the first game, Union scored the game's only run in the top of the third inning without the aid of a hit. Summer Cross led off with a walk and moved to second on a groundout. After a sacrifice moved Cross to third, she scored when Whitney Christian's ground ball resulted in throwing error. Union did not earn their first hit until Alex Williams led off the fifth with a single. Union's only other hit came in the seventh on a single from McKinley Tribble. Union's Kelly Robey (17-14) tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits with 11 strikeouts in the win.
 
The second game was scoreless until Union scored first again with a run in the fourth inning. Reagan Schrader led off the inning with her team-leading 11th home run of the season. The score stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh inning. Trevecca A pair of two out singled completed the comeback win for the home Trojans. Robey tossed another complete game, 6.2 innings, in the loss. She allowed just two runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
 
Up next for Union will be a road conference series at West Alabama starting Saturday, April 12.
