Union softball wins GSC series at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Union University softball team earned a series win at Christian Brothers University. The two teams split a double-header Saturday afternoon, Christian Brothers winning the first game 4-3 and Union taking game two 5-2. Union then won the third game of the series 4-0. Union improved to 22-17 on the season and 7-12 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers dropped to 7-29 overall and 2-19 in league play.
 
Game one had Christian Brothers jump out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Union tied the game with a pair of runs in the third. Union took a brief lead with a run in the fifth, before Christian Brothers tied the game in the bottom of the field, and then scored the game winner in the bottom of the sixth. Union was led by Amanda Chandler with two hits. Chandler, Alex Williams, and Reagan Schrader each recorded one RBI. Kelly Robey (16-13) took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned on six hits with five strikeouts.
 
In the second game Saturday, Union responded to win 5-2. Union broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fourth inning. Christian Brothers added two runs in the fifth, but Union tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Chandler, Sarah Kreuter, and McKinley Tribble added two hits each. Cross led with two RBI. Robey earned the win, tossing seven innings allowing two runs, one earned with 12 strikeouts.
 
The third game of the series was all Union. Robey tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts. Williams and Tribble led with two hits and one RBI each. Union pounded out 10 hits in the game.
