Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team lost the series opener to NCAA DII No. 3 University of Alabama Huntsville. Union dropped to 23-22 on the season and 7-16 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Huntsville improved to 35-7 overall and 19-6 in league play.
Alabama Huntsville wasted no time in scoring as they posted a pair of runs in the top of the first on four hits. UAH added four more in the third to lead 6-0. Union recorded their hit of the game in the second inning on a double from
Summer Cross. Alabama Huntsville added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to set the final at 8-0. Union put three runners at second base in the game, but never had more than two hits in an inning.
Union had five hits from five different players. Alabama Huntsville pounded out 13 hits in the win. The top four hitters in the UAH lineup combined to go 9-for-15 with seven runs and six RBI.
Kelly Robey (17-17) took the loss, allowing eight runs on 13 hits with four strikeouts. Whitney Toler (8-2) earned the win with a shutout, allowing five hits with four strikeouts.
Up next for Union will be a double-header Saturday at noon versus UAH. This marks the final home games of the year for Union in 2014.
