Union softball splits with Davenport

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball earned a double-header split with Davenport (Mich.) University Friday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union took the first game 1-0, and then dropped the second game 8-0. Union is now 12-12 on the season, while Davenport moved to 12-3 overall.
                         
In the first game, Union's Kelly Robey (7-3) tossed a no-hitter in seven innings of work, striking out eight hitters and walking two. Two other baserunners reached on a pair of Union errors, both coming in the third inning. Union's lone run came on a Shelby Lamb solo home run with one out in the fourth. Union's Reagan Schrader had Union's only other hit.
 
In the second game, it was all Davenport as the Panthers scored a run in the first, four in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the sixth to win the short game 8-0. Union managed just five hits, two coming from Erin Picard. Davenport pounded out 12 hits, three coming from Blovsky. Hailey Cummings (3-3) took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts in three innings of work. Cheyenne Mauldin tossed three innings of relief, allowing two runs on five hits.
 
Up next for Union will be a Gulf South Conference home double-header Saturday, March 15 versus Delta State (Miss.) University, starting at 11:00 a.m.
