Union baseball opens region play with win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team posted a 7-3 victory over Tennessee Temple University in the 2013 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) MidEast Region Baseball Tournament. The win was the third straight for Union and improved their record to 12-32 on the year. Tennessee Temple dropped to the losers bracket and is now 16-21 overall.
 
Union scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning with a hit and the help of two errors. Tennessee Temple answered with three runs on three hits to take the lead.
 
Union responded to tie the game in the bottom of the third with two runs on two hits. Union scored in four straight innings, and five of the six innings with a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Each game of the NCCAA Tourney is a seven inning game. Zach Wylie hit his first home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth.
 
Jared David (1-8) got his first win of the season, holding the Crusaders to three runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. Union pounded out eight hits in the game. Wylie led Union with three hits, while Jim Martin and Cole McAdams each had two hits. McAdams and Wylie drove in two runs each.
 
Union plays the host school Trevecca Nazarene Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. Union lost twice to Trevecca Nazarene this season, 9-3 and 8-3.
