GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Union University softball team has earned a No. 6 seed for the 2013 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Softball National Championship. The national tournament will be played in Botetourt, Virginia and his hosted by Bluefield (Va.) College.
Union captured one of the automatic bids last week by sweeping through the NCCAA MidEast Region Tournament. In three games during the region tournament, Union allowed just four total hits, and did not allow a run.
Union will open play in the national tournament Thursday, May 9 at 1:30 p.m. central time versus No. 3 seeded Simpson (Calif.) University. The double elimination tournament goes through Saturday, May 11. Gulf South Conference foe Shorter (Ga.) is the No. 1 seed and familiar opponents such as Campbellsville (Ky.) and Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) are also in the field of 10 teams.
