VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Union University baseball team dropped all three games of the weekend series at Valdosta State University. Union lost 4-3, 5-4, and 7-5. The Bulldogs dropped to 9-31 on the season and 2-21 in league play. Valdosta State improved to 26-14 on the season and 12-9 in the Gulf South Conference.
In the first two games Saturday, Union led both games going into the final at-bat for Valdosta State. However, the Blazers were able to pull out walk-off wins with both games.
In the third and final game of the series, Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning. Valdosta State answered with a run in the first, two in the third and two in the forth to lead 5-3. Union tied the game with two runs in the seventh, before the Blazers scored two more in the bottom of the seventh. Neither team scored over the final two innings.
Hunter Smith stayed hot at the plate for Union, extending his hitting streak to six games. He was 6-for-10 in the series with two runs, a walk, and two RBI.
Up next for Union will be a road game at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) April 23 at 5:00 p.m.
