JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lady Bulldogs played Mid-Continent (Ky.) Thursday afternoon for senior day. Union topped the Cougars 8-0 in game one of the double header. Game two was cancelled due to weather. Union improves to 19-16 on the season while Mid-Continent drops to 8-24.
Offense in game one led to a run-rule win for Union. The Lady Bulldogs struck early in the second inning with five runs on five hits. Singles from
Reagan Schrader,
Summer Cross, and
DeShuni Sanders started Union's offense, scoring three runs early in the inning.
Alex Williams doubled to right field to score two more runs to give Union a 5-0 lead over the Cougars. Union added another run in the fourth inning on an RBI double from
Alex Williams. Union sealed the deal in the bottom of the fifth with two more runs on two hits.
Sam Giesler hit a leadoff single and later scored on an RBI single from
DeShuni Sanders to also score
Reagan Schrader. Solid pitching from senior
Brooke Thomas (8-8) held the Cougars to just one hit in five innings of work. Thomas earned the win and the shutout on senior day. Union combined for eight hits in game one.
Game two of the afternoon was cancelled due to rain in the third inning with Union leading Mid-Continent 8-0.
Up next for Union is a road series against North Alabama in Florence on Saturday, April 20 at 1 and 3 pm.
