JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team played a single game on Saturday afternoon against the No. 3 Blazers of Valdosta State (Ga.) University. The Lady Bulldogs lost to the Blazers 4-1, falling to 13-13 overall and 8-12 in Gulf South Conference play. Valdosta State improved to 26-8 on the season and 11-6 in conference play.
The Blazers scored first with three runs on three hits and one error in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Union responded in the bottom of the frame with one run on a leadoff solo homerun from freshman 
Caylee Crews to shrink Valdosta's lead to two runs. Valdosta answered right back with another tally in the top of the fourth to go up 4-1. The score remained as both teams were scoreless through the end of the game. Union was led by sophomore 
Alex Williams who went 2-3 on the day with a pair of singles. 
Brooke Thomas (5-6) suffered the loss but recorded three strikeouts and one walk.
The second game of the double header was cancelled due to rain.
Up next for Union is a road series against Christian Brothers in Memphis, Tenn. April 6 at 1:00 p.m.
