JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team lost both games of a double-header to NCAA DII No. 6 University of West Florida Saturday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union fell 10-4 in the first game, then lost 4-1 in game two. Union dropped to 3-15 overall and 0-8 in the Gulf South Conference. West Florida improved to 20-3 overall and 6-2 in league play.
In the first game, Union started off hot, getting each of the first five batters on base in the first inning. Union got on the board first with a 3-run home run from
Kody Pinson. Union had the opportunity for two more runs, but two runners were picked off in the inning. West Florida tied the game in the top of the third inning with three unearned runs. The Argos put the game away with five runs in the fourth, sending 11 men to the plate. West Florida starter Bryson (3-0) settled in after a rocky start to the game. He finished with 11 strikeouts, including seven in a row during the game. Union starter
Cody Cunningham tossed 3.1 innings, allowing eight runs, five earned on nine hits.

Will Embry tossed relief for Union. Chambers (1) earned the save for West Florida, tossing the final three innings of successful relief. Union pounded out 11 hits, while West Florida tallied 14 hits. Union had two errors. Speed led Union with three hits, while Pinson's three RBI led the Bulldogs. Soulmon had four hits to lead the Argos from the leadoff spot. Pritchard led with four RBI.
The second game was much more the pitchers dual. Union starter
Jared Davis (0-4) took the tough loss, going this distance, allowing four runs, two earned on eight hits with three strikeouts. Parker (2-1) earned the win with six innings of work allowing just two hits and one run with one strikeout. Vollenweider tossed the final inning of relief with three strikeouts. West Florida took the lead first with a run in the top of the first. Then tallied a second run in the fifth. The score was 2-0 until Rodriguez double home two insurance runs in the top of the seventh of a seven inning game. Union threatened in the bottom of the seventh.
Wacey Russell earned an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. However, Union could not get the big hit and left the bases loaded to end the game. Allen led West Florida with two hits, while Union scratched out three hits from three different players.
