JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University volleyball team lost 3-1 (28-26, 25-20, 7-25, 25-22) Tuesday night to Trevecca Nazarene University. Union dropped to 3-7 on the season, while Trevecca improved to 10-6 overall.
 
The first set had Union and Trevecca going back and forth for most of the set. It featured six ties and five lead changes. Union trailed 22-18, before going on a 6-0 run to lead 24-22. However, Union could not put the Trojans away and lost 28-26.
 
The second set, Union led 7-5, but allowed a 6-0 run by Trevecca. Union never led again in the set, despite battling back to a 22-20 deficit.
 
In the third set, Union took control early and did not look back. The Lady Bulldogs never trailed in the set. With Union leading 3-2, freshman Elise Seufert served Union to 10 straight points. Union closed out the set with seven straight points, all while senior Lauren Sprouse was serving. Union won 25-7 to get back into the match.
 
In the fourth set, Union remained hot early as they jumped out to a 5-2 lead. However, Trevecca did not allow Union to get that big lead. The Trojans gained the lead at 9-8 and then led by as many as five points in the last set. Union cut the lead to 23-21, but Trevecca closed out the set and match.
 
Union was led by Savannah Hughes with a match-high 19 kills. Kristin Cook added 13 kills. Lydia Wright led with 27 assists, Seufert added three aces and 18 digs, while Abbey Wainwright and Mallory Baker led with four blocks each.
 
Trevecca was led by Kristen Johnson with 15 kills and Persephanie Devereaux with 12 kills. Caroline Gay led with 20 assists, Loren Bennets with two aces, and Shelby Sorce with 16 digs.
 
Union continues their stretch of seven straight home matches Tuesday with a Gulf South Conference match up versus Shorter (Ga.) at 7:00 p.m.
