ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- Union closed the weekend in dominant fashion, defeating Ouachita Baptist 8-0 on Friday afternoon at Langston Field to secure the series win.
The Lady Bulldogs set the tone early and never let up. After taking advantage of an early Ouachita error, Sydney Scott delivered a two-RBI single down the left field line in the first inning to give Union a 2-0 lead. The offense added another run in the second when Bella Lopez came around to score on a Chloe Jones fielder's choice, stretching the lead to 3-0.
Union broke things open in the fourth. Jones lined an RBI single through the left side before Mallory Hildebrand followed with a two-RBI single to right, pushing the advantage to 6-0 and putting the game firmly in Union's control.
The Lady Bulldogs added the finishing touches in the seventh. Paige Garetson sparked the inning with a pinch-hit single, Lopez tripled to right center to bring her home, and Camryn Langley followed with an RBI single up the middle to cap the 8-0 victory .
Lopez led the charge offensively, scoring three runs and adding a triple. Langley went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, while Jones collected two hits and two RBIs. Hildebrand and Scott each drove in two as Union totaled 11 hits on the day .
In the circle, Riley Vaughn was masterful in the series finale. The right-hander tossed a complete-game one-hitter, striking out six and allowing just one hit over seven shutout innings to earn the win. Backed by a clean defensive effort, Union did not commit an error in the shutout.
With the victory, Union clinches the series and builds momentum heading into conference play.
The Lady Bulldogs will make their home debut with a series against Delta State (2/20).Â
