Union women's soccer stays unbeaten on season following a tie in GSC home opener

JACKSON, Tenn - The Union University women's soccer team played Delta State University to a 0-0 tie Friday night at Smith Memorial Complex. In the Gulf South Conference home opener for Union, the Lady Bulldogs moved to 2-0-3 on the season and 1-0-1 in the GSC. Delta State moved to 1-2-4 overall and 0-0-3 in league play. 

The two teams have now combined for seven ties on the season,with DSU tying all three of its league games. All three of DSU league games have been 0-0 ties. 

Union won its opening game in the GSC last week in a 1-0 win at Christian Brothers. 

The match tonight was also a rematch of last season GSC Quarterfinal Match when Union knocked of DSU 2-0 at home to advance to the conference semifinals. 

In this match, DSU out shot Union 23-13 in the game, including 11-5 in shots on goal. Each team had a few missed opportunities to score, with Union missing on a couple of late shots on goal. 

Rebekah Jackson's had a possible game-winning shot spoiled by DSU's Piper Burgess in goal in the final minutes. Lucia Revuelto led Union with three shots, while Carly VanGlesen and Ella Neely added two each. Dehlia Placie spent all 90 minutes in goal for Union, recording 11 saves, nine of which came in the second half. 

Union will play again September 28 at home at 1 p.m. versus Mississippi College. The team will honor its seniors before the game at approximately 12:40 p.m.
