HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With 11-9 and 15-6 wins on Friday over the UAH Chargers, the Union University baseball team recorded a second-straight series win in Gulf South Conference play despite falling 21-15 on Saturday.
Union set a GSC-era school record for hits in a three-game series with 48 total knocks. The Bulldogs recorded 14 hits in game one, 16 and 18 in the following games, and nine for extra bases.
The Bulldogs improved to 15-21 (9-14) on the season, while UAH fell to 17-20 (8-16). Union, which acted as the home team due to game relocation, improved its home record to 8-6.
Carson Chavies, who has now reached base in 24 straight games, had an outstanding weekend, blasting a homer in all three games and finishing the series 8-14. The senior outfielder boasts a .493 on-base percentage and leads the team in home runs (5) and many other offensive categories.
Union's 18 hits in game three matched a season-high, and the Bulldogs set and then matched a season-high in runs scored against a GSC team (15). Fifteen Bulldog batsmen struck out in the series opener, the most in a Union win since 2021.
Large, crooked numbers were the weekend trend for Union's offense, which scored six in the fifth inning of game one, eight in the sixth of the middle contest, and nine in inning three of the finale. The Charger bats scored in seven different innings in game one and in all but one frame of the concluding match.
Other outstanding performers included
Grant Ross, who finished the weekend 6-13 with a game-one homer and three walks, and
Dyllon Barrett (8-15, two doubles, walk).
Eli Snelson finished his game two outing an out short of a quality start, allowing three runs in 5.2 innings.
Union is set to host Young Harris on Wednesday in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at Fesmire Field before concluding the five-game homestand against AUM on Friday and Saturday.
